2008-2009 Miss Chick
Shelby Edwards

Shelby Edwards, daughter of Sheri Edwards, was crowned Saturday night at Rooster Days as the 2008-2009 Miss Chick. She will be a junior at Broken Arrow High School next fall.

When asked why do you want to be Miss Chick? Shelby expressed that she loved being involved in her community. She had done community work through school and found it to be a wonderful experience. She expressed she wanted to be a role model for the youth of today and feels that she would do a great job.

She answered the question, Why are you proud to call Broken Arrow your home town?

Stating "It's where I grew up, I know it better then any place else. It has some of the sweetest, most giving people I've ever met. I should know, I am the daughter of one of them, my mother."

Her favorite hobbies or sports is cheerleading for about 5 years and playing softball for 5. She is currently very interested in acting.

When asked what Clubs, Organizations, and Honors & Awards she has achieved she listed: National Honor Society, Student Council, and has served as Vice-President this past year. She received academic awards as well as citizenship and character award, and was student of today in her 5th grade year.

Her future plans are to move to New York, to attend the American Music and Drama Academy, and pursue acting, singing, and dancing.

Shelby was asked, What do you think is the most important issue facing young women? She answered, "The most important issue is self-esteem and self respect. Some girls today just don't feel as beautiful as they should. Not just on the outside, but inside too. They need to really think, they don't need anyone but their own approval of how truly and genuinely beautiful they are."

In Shelby's own words, "To the world you may just be one person, but to one person you may be their world. I live my life by this quote through fund raising for different organizations, such as DVIS, Autism, and breast cancer. I enjoy giving back to the community and strongly believe it is always better to give than to receive. I have lived in Broken Arrow my whole life and truly adore the community. I have a wonderful family, which consists of my mom Sheri who is attending college to gain her master's degree; my step dad Kerry, who works for JD Young; two younger sisters, Kristian (age11) and Katelyn (age 3); and our two cute puppies Boomer and BoBo. I live only two blocks away from my grandparents, whom I visit often. My family is very close-knit. I feel so blessed to have such an amazing family who loves and supports me in every aspect of my life. I was a cheerleader for five years, played softball for five years, and just, finished participating in the production of "Kiss Me Kate" for the Senior High School. My grade point average is a 3.75 and I plan to maintain great grades throughout high school. I am also looking into a few colleges. I am so excited to continue on in high school and to attend college. I have worked very hard to accomplish all that I have and will keep on working hard, giving to my community, and spending as much time with my family as I possibly can."

Shelby will be an ambassador for the youth of Broken Arrow and will be attending ribbon cuttings and ground breaking ceremonies with the Ambassadors Club of the Broken Arrow Area Chamber of Commerce.
